Pit Firing
We dig a hole in the ground and put the bisque pieces with attached salt and copper oxides. Sometimes we add straws, oyster shells, or unexpected natural materials. Then we add wood and paper as fuel to make the pieces adsorb carbon and oxides to form pleasingly detailed marks during the smoke firing process.
